Having grown significantly as a business over the previous two years, Jonathan Jones, the Managing Director of Bella Boutique Cheshire Ltd, found himself in a precarious situation many small business owners face when employing members of staff:

  • Lack of adequate Employment Contracts;
  • No polices or procedures (employee Handbook);
  • No resource to get HR advice from when a situation arises.

The Situation

The business was in desperate need of employment contracts which would help Jonathan effectively manage his staff, as well as protect it from ex-employees who could be looking to set up in competition with Bella Boutique. 

There were also a few issues with current staff which needed to be addressed due to the ambiguity of the previous employment contracts Jonathan had found on Google. This included problems related to holiday entitlement and sick leave/pay.

What We Did

  • Allocate Bella Boutique to Gwyn Edwards as their dedicated HR and Employment Law advisor;
  • Gwyn completed an initial HR audit of Bella;
  • Based on the findings in the HR audit, Gwyn prepared bespoke Employment Contracts for the business;
  • Alongside the Contracts, Gwyn drafted a tailored Employee Handbook for the company;
  • Advised on several HR issues, including holiday entitlement and sick leave.

The Result

New employment contracts and an employee handbook were issued within the first 12 days of Jonathan signing up to the service. We were also able to clear up the issues surrounding holiday entitlement and sickness within a couple of days, ensuring a smooth running of the HR within Bella ever since.
