If the ownership of your business or organisation is in the process of being transferred from one owner to another, it can often be a very confusing and complicated time for both you and your employees. In particular, your employees will want to know if their employment is still secure.

TUPE (or, Transfer of Undertakings, Protection of Employment) is meant for that very reason. It is designed to offer the right assurances to employees protected under the TUPE regulation that their roles will be safe. 

These regulations are relatively simple in practice but can be somewhat complicated to understand initially, particularly during the stressful process of a TUPE transfer. No matter how large or small your business is, as an employer based in the UK, your employees are automatically protected under the TUPE regulations, and they can be sure that their employment is sure to continue as usual under the new ownership. There are, however, exceptions to this.
