Blood Testing and Occupational Health

Hepatitis B virus (HBV) Blood Testing

Hepatitis B, in simple terms, is inflammation of the liver. It can be caused by various factors, but it is primarily attributed to viruses. Additionally, it may be induced by chemicals, drugs, alcohol, inherited diseases or autoimmune conditions.

The prevalence rate of Hepatitis B is believed to be between 0.1% and 0.5% of the UK population.

If an organisation’s COSHH risk assessment indicates that an employee is at risk of Hepatitis B then the employer is responsible for arranging immunisation.
